May 11 marks the 5th anniversary of LeRoys homecoming. He was a wonderful man,
dedicated to the Lord. We all miss him very much.
On January 12, 2010 at 4:53 PM Haiti was shaken
physically, emotionally, spiritually and economically.
Arriving at Port-au-Prince airport on the afternoon of March 19 was my first glimpse of the devastation Haiti
has suffered. Even the news media could not capture fully the devastation I saw nor could they convey the stench that still hangs over the city and out into the countryside.
My first full week was one of chauffeuring part of the
Church of the Brethren medical team. Vine Ministrys
4x4 Mitsubishi that so many of you helped us to buy,
served us well as we traveled to 5 different preaching
points of COB in 5 days. One day took us 3 hours out
of the city; into the mountains passing through Legoane,
the epicenter of the earthquake. This town was 90 % destroyed. The U.S. Doctors and nurses along with some Haitian Doctors and nurses saw over 200 patients each day.
I volunteered in the pharmacy. counting out pills the doctors ordered. During this week I made new friends and am happy that I was able to be a part of the team.
On Saturday March 27, Bob Gigliotti from New Life Fellowship in Pittsburgh, PA joined me. For the next week we traveled around the city as Bob did an amazing job of videoing and taking over 700 pictures. He is now in the process of producing a video for Vine Ministry which we will be able to share with you as we travel to churches. Thank you, Bob, for your, time, energy and expertise.
Sunday morning at Vine Church was exciting!! Due to the damage at the church, we are still meeting on the street in front of the church. Pastor Joel got permission from the police to block the street on Sunday morning. They put up tarps across the street to protect from the sun and bring out chairs and CHURCH GOES ON! There was an estimated 400 people singing, praying and praising God. What a great time we had. By the time you receive this the repairs to the church at an estimated cost of $11,555 should be completed and we will soon be able to move inside.
Because of your generosity that Sunday Vine Ministry gave money totaling nearly $3,000 (US) for food to 55 families, which included 79 children. Bob also distributed packets from New Life Fellowship: to 100 children, giving a wash cloth, soap, candy, $1.00 (US) and a picture of NLF children saying, We are praying for you. He also gave 50 packets for adults which included a wash cloth, soap, flashlight, $2.00 (US) and a picture of NLF adults saying We are praying for you. Another $500. given by NLF was distributed to some who had special needs. ie. One family whose wife and mother had a leg amputated because she was trapped in their home. Needless to say, there were a lot of blest people that day! Vine Ministry will continue to distribute money or food on a monthly basis as long as the funds are available and there is a need.
It is a fact that businesses are getting back to some semblance of normalcy. The economy, however, is being affected by all the free food that has come into the country. We are convinced that the best way to help the people is to either give them money so they can buy locally or to buy the food in Haiti and distribute it to the people.
School began on April 5 and will end August 13. School in the fall will begin the first Monday of October. If you are currently supporting a child please continue that support.
Pastor Joels wife, Marie, plans to return to Haiti the end of April. She had 2 surgeries and now has a pacemaker. Thank you for praying for her.
I want to express my gratitude to all of you who so faithfully pray and support Vine Ministry. This is your ministry. I just have the privilege of being your ambassador to these brothers and sisters.

Evelyn Dick
