“SPARED FOR A PURPOSE” is one of the first statements Pastor Joel made to me after the earthquake
of January 12. His entire family was spared. For this we thank the Lord. Picture, Spared For a Purpose
Vine Church suffered the loss of 7 adults and one child.
Repairs have been made to the damage sustained in the balcony area of the church. In order to
strengthen the building still more, there will also be some additional support
beams added to the first floor.
After the quake and until the damage was repaired services were held on the
street outside the church. The Sunday of April 18th is the first Sunday worship
was again held in the downstairs of the building. Pastor Joel says they are so
packed out each Sunday that they will move upstairs to the main sanctuary
just as soon as the lights are installed even though it is not totally finished.
The plan was to move upstairs on Dedication Day, however, they are in need the space NOW. The past
2 Sundays 9 people accepted the Lord. We Praise God for this!!
.
The annual Celebration of the beginning of Vine Church will be July 4 to July 11. Several weeks
ago they resumed the day of prayer and fasting from 6:00AM to 6:00 PM each
Thursday.
I do want to qualify a statement I made in a previous newsletter concerning Haiti’s
President Preval. It had been told to me he had dedicated his life to the Lord
after the earthquake. Since that time I have heard that this may not be true.
Please continue to pray for him.
Unrest continues in Haiti as demonstrations are held in the streets for the
return of the former President Aristede and former President “Baby Doc.”
It is my plan to go to Haiti for a week in July. The exact date is not yet determined.
My cousin Nora Garber will accompany me on this trip. Our purpose is to assess the
needs for feeding Vine Church people and also for housing. Last Sunday of each
month we are distributing money for food to those in Vine Church who are in need. We have ordered the house for the family living at the church.
In early July I will be attending the Church of the Brethren Annual Conference in Pittsburgh, PA. Hopefully I will see many of you there. Tentatively, I will be visiting churches in August. If you have not yet returned your request for us to come to your church but would like to invite us, please do this as soon as possible or call me. Once I arrange an itinerary it is quite difficult to change it. Don’t forget to return your forms for child sponsorship. To date I have received 32.
My thanks to all of you for your support and prayers for Vine Ministry, Pastor Joel and family, Vine
Church and for me. You have been so supportive in your giving for Haiti Relief (food, medicine and
housing) as well as Child Sponsorship, Building and General Fund.
Haiti is full of challenges but the Grace of God abounds. It is a privilege to be a part of the work that is being done in Haiti. God is faithful to meet our needs!
